Beautiful confit pots were originally used in country homes and farms of southern France to store duck confit. Many originate from the 19th century and have long been much sought after not so much as a collectable, but as a lovely decorative antique for use as a vessel for arranging flowers. Twelve years or so ago you could pick them up for anything between £25 and £45 in British antique shops. These days I regularly see them selling in America for between $400 and $500; although they do come up for sale on eBay often at quite a bit less.

The pots are cool but are they actually old? I see so much of this kind of stuff at antique shows all over the USA. It appears and becomes popular and then you see hundreds of them everywhere. I prefer to look for items that I know are rare. Rare, of course, is relative. There some rare items that are not worth a tremendous amount of money. I am going to Europe to hunt for antiques in February on a trip with the people at EuropeAntiqueTrip.com. The guys who do this tour are not your basic tourist kind of shoppers. They hit the major wholesale antiques markets and flea markets. I'm excited about the trip because I am the picker type, not the High heels decorator. I like to get the REAL stuff! I want it for way less. I met you in Newark, England two years ago and had you sign my copy of your Miller's antiques guide. I now have a series of the antiques guides. What is the first year? I want to have a whole set.
Thanks for the books.
