National Antiques Week - An Update

Best Antiques ShopsIn between a train journey back from a very successful signing in Guisborough and a great radio interview with Radio Lincolnshire, I managed to catch up with the deputy editor of Homes & Antiques magazine, Natasha Goodfellow. Naturally our conversation soon turned to National Antiques Week and the Britain’s Best Antiques Shops campaign, which Homes & Antiques are running in association with Antiques News & Fairs.

Natasha was kind enough to give me a bit of behind the scenes information about how the competition came about:

'We came up with the idea back in spring. In the past, we've worked with dealers to offer 10 or 20 per cent discounts to our readers during National Antiques Week, but this year we wanted to do something a bit different to highlight Britain's fabulous antiques businesses, something that the industry could easily get behind. So, working closely with Antiques News and Fairs, the organisers of National Antiques Week, we're inviting people to nominate their favourite antiques shops, centres and auction houses.'

They then produced an eye-catching logo (see above!), and secured celebrity endorsement from property guru Kirstie Allsopp and, of course, Mark Hill. Let’s not forget the great prizes that can be won by anyone who nominates their favourite shop. Natasha reminded me that as well as Miller’s books, these prizes include stays in luxury hotels, LAPADA and BADA vouchers, and lots more. It’s definitely worth taking part!

So far, Natasha estimates there have been over 2,000 nominations for businesses all over the country - though she's not letting on any clues about who is in the lead! Nominations close on 30th November so there's still plenty of time to support your favourite shop or antiques centre. Simply log on to www.homesandantiques.com or www.nationalantiquesweek.co.uk and click on Britain's Best Antiques Shops.

The short-listed businesses will be announced in the March issue of Homes and Antiques and the winners will be announced at the Bath Decorative Fair on 8th March.
