Qing Dynasty Scroll

An imperial scroll from the Qing Dynasty that shows China's Emperor Qianlong leading 16,000 troops sold at Sotheby's in Hong Kong yesterday for for HK$67.9 million (£4.7 million). The 15.5-meter Dayue Tu is the third of four handscrolls commissioned by Qianlong in 1746 to show the Emporer's military might; two of the scrolls are missing and the other is in the Palace Museum Beijing. The scroll was previously sold by Christie's International for less than half the price of yeaterday's sale in April 2004.
