The Sunday Shop – Hipnotique

Author iconJudith Miller | Calendar icon21st Feb 10, 8:48 PM

Those of you in the UK who watched tonight's edition of the Antiques Roadshow from Leeds will have seen me do a piece with a lady who collects antique clothes. She really did have some fabulous dresses that were worth around £600-700 each. With her collection in mind I thought I'd feature on this week's Sunday Shop one that specialises in vintage clothes, although their stock is somewhat newer than the clothing featured on the Roadshow..

Hipnotique are in Leigh on Sea in Essex and they sell original Vintage clothing & accessories for Men, Women & Children, mainly 1940’s -1980’s, all in either excellent vintage condition, or deadstock unworn, and now collectibles!

I had an email from a friend yesterday evening. 'Dear Judith, what happened to the Sunday shop this week? Could I suggest the Scottish Antique and Arts Centre at Doune, a little way north of Stirling? Not only is it a great place to buy and browse but they also have a fabulous restaurent serving delicious meals all day."

The Sunday Shop – Kill Devil Hill, Brooklyn

Author iconJudith Miller | Calendar icon07th Feb 10, 1:41 PM

As many of you know I regulary visit New York  and when I'm there I like to try and search out new antique shops to visit. A friend has just sent me details of a shop in Brooklyn that they think I should visit next time I'm in the city. I thought I;d make it my Sunday Shop for today. It has the unusual name of Kill Devil Hill and it describes itself as a 'curious general store in Greenpoint Brooklyn.' On its web site it goes onto say. 'Thinking about life before 1945, workers, socialism, amber waves of grain, the wild west, searching for gold, the sustainable and renewable. Offering a range of vintage goods, from workwear to military uniforms. Taxidermy, bones, antlers, and teeth. Trading beads, elk ivory pendants and clocks. Come for the curiosities, stay for the stories.'

Heaton Antiques

Author iconJudith Miller | Calendar icon31st Jan 10, 8:32 PM

In Yorkshire they have an expression, 'Where there's muck, there's brass' – meaning you'll find money. Heaton Antiques is our Sunday Shop. I know nothing about the shop, but would be happy to post more information if someone could get in touch.
